UNT graduate and online programs ranked among nation’s best by U.S. News and World Report
DENTON (UNT), Texas – Two University of North Texas graduate programs have been ranked among the nation’s best by U.S. News and World Report in its 2014 Best Graduate Schools rankings released in March. These rankings follow a January release of Best Online Education programs that had two UNT programs on the list.
The College of Information’s Department of Library and Information Sciences graduate program was ranked 21st in the nation for Best Library and Information Studies graduate program. In the department, Health Librarianship is ranked as 6th in the nation and School Library Media as 8th.
The master of science in library and information sciences program is accredited by the American Library Association, the oldest and largest library association in the world. The School Library Media certification is the first online program of its kind in the U.S., and one of many nationally recognized programs in the department.
“The department constantly evolves to meet the needs of our students and to offer them a challenging and nurturing environment,” said Dr. Suliman Hawamdeh, chair of the Department of Library and Information Sciences. “This ranking reflects our dedication to leadership and a quality education.”
The UNT Health Science Center was ranked 31st for Primary Care in the Best Graduate Schools ranking. Along with education and research, UNT Health Science Center is dedicated to providing the best in patient care. UNT Health physicians see patients in more than 30 clinics across Tarrant County and represent a wide range of medical specialties.
In January, U.S. News and World Report released its list of 2013 Best Online Education Programs and two UNT programs were included in that ranking. The College of Education was ranked 13th in the nation for Best Online Graduate Education Programs, including its master’s degree in educational psychology with a concentration in gifted and talented education and a new accelerated online master’s degree in educational leadership. UNT’s master of business administration degree program was ranked 20th in the nation for Best Online Graduate Business Programs. UNT offers online M.B.A. programs with concentrations in marketing, strategic management and finance. The degrees are provided in flexible formats to meet the needs of working professionals, and the UNT M.B.A. is fully accredited by AACSB-International, the world’s premiere accrediting agency for colleges of business.
According to U.S. News and World Report, rankings are based on factors such as student engagement, faculty credentials and training, support services offered to students and admissions selectivity.

Eleven UNT students will attend this year’s Mayborn Literary Nonfiction Conference after receiving awards that cover registration and meals and lodging during the conference. The Mayborn Literary Nonfiction Conference is held every summer by UNT's Frank W. Mayborn Graduate Institute of Journalism.
Jon Savage, a recent UNT graduate, is one of only 20 students in the nation to receive the 2013 Jack Kent Cooke Graduate Arts Award for $150,000 to attend graduate school. Savage was a member of both the McNair Scholars Program and the Honors College while he was at UNT.
