UNT Financial Success Program wins Outstanding Educational Program honors
DENTON (UNT), Texas — The University of North Texas Student-to-Student Financial Success Program has been selected by the Association of Financial Counseling and Planning Education (AFCPE) for recognition as an Outstanding Educational Program.
AFCPE is a non-profit, international, professional membership organization dedicated to improving personal financial management education, training and certification of financial counselors, educators and other related practitioners.
Rachel Grimes, Student Money Management Center program coordinator, will be accepting the award on behalf of the program during an AFCPE awards luncheon to be held Nov. 16 (Friday) in St. Louis, MO.
"Our Student-to-Student team is proud to bring such national recognition to both the center and the university," said Grimes. "We have a team of mentors without whom this award would not have been possible."
The Student-to-Student Financial Success Program (S2S), as part of the UNT Student Money Management Center, gives students the opportunity to learn money management skills from trained peers. The mentors serve students in four areas: planning, educating, engaging and reviewing. More than 32,100 university students and 2,800 middle school and high school students from the greater Denton area have participated in the program.
"This award demonstrates the difference our peer mentors are making in the lives of other students," said mentor Stephen Trevino, a senior accounting major at UNT. "We don’t expect to receive awards for helping students, but it is nice to know that our efforts have not gone unnoticed."
