DENTON (UNT), Texas – Beverly Cotton joins the University of North Texas as associate vice president for budget and analytics, effective Aug. 11, 2014.

Cotton, who most recently was vice president of business and finance for Brite Divinity School at Texas Christian University, has years of experience in higher education accounting, having previously worked at Texas Tech University in various finance administration positions.

"Beverly brings to UNT a variety of valuable experiences from her time at Texas Christian University and Texas Tech," said UNT Vice President for Finance and Administration Bob Brown. "She is a great addition to our staff and will help ensure UNT continues to improve and build upon its solid financial foundation."

As associate vice president for budget and analytics, Cotton will represent the university in matters related to the budget, ensure monitoring systems are in place to track compliance with federal and state laws and regulations, monitor staff training to ensure compliance with laws and regulations, and provide leadership and oversight in budgeting and financial analytics for UNT.

"I'm excited to be a part of the finance and administration team at UNT," said Cotton. "I'm dedicated to ensuring accurate and transparent finance administration that will continue to advance UNT's position as a top university. Several of my family members have worked as faculty and staff at UNT and we have UNT graduates in our family as well, so I already have the Mean Green spirit."

Cotton worked in a variety of finance and administration jobs at Texas Tech, including nearly a year as interim vice president of administration and finance and director of special projects for administration and finance. In these positions, she had oversight of financial reporting and tax compliance, and helped plan and budget for the university's annual operating budget of more than $600 million.

Prior to her work at Texas Tech, Cotton worked as a CPA, financial analyst and taught accounting at Wayland Baptist University and Texas Tech.

Cotton is active with Volunteer Income Tax Assistance through Catholic Charities Fort Worth, helping provide free federal income tax assistance preparation for people with low-to-moderate incomes. She is a member of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, and has been involved in Leadership Fort Worth and other organizations.

She holds two bachelors of business administration degrees, one in finance and one in accounting, from Texas Tech University, and a master's degree in accounting from Texas Tech. She has been a CPA in Texas since 1991 and a certified fraud examiner since 2000.
