DENTON (UNT), Texas -- The University of North Texas has organized its third annual Global Discovery Workshop. The 2013 workshop, Energy Efficient Buildings and Communities, will be held May 19 – 22 (Sunday – Wednesday), in Tartu, Estonia.

The event is also co-organized by the University of Tartu in Estonia, the State University of Ponta Grossa in Brazil, and the City of Denton, Texas.

“We have a wonderful lineup of top quality speakers and attendees from all over the world, from government, academic and industry backgrounds,” said Yong Tao, professor and chair of UNT’s Department of Mechanical and Energy Engineering in UNT’s College of Engineering, who has helped organize the event.

Government officials, researchers and industry representatives will attend the event from countries around the world including the United States, China, Mexico, Germany, Brazil, Romania, the United Kingdom and Estonia. Attendees will hold discussions on how to incorporate the next generation of green energy and sustainable technology into communities, current research focusing on sustainability, and green energy practices already in place in the world’s top cities.

“This event is a great opportunity for people from various backgrounds to work together and share experiences,” Tao said. “We’re going to challenge industry, academia and government to work together on bringing green energy into communities around the world.”

The Annual Global Discovery Workshops were established in 2011 by the Office of the Provost, College of Engineering and UNT International. The workshops focus on a different research theme each year, and bring together researchers from around the globe.
