  • The 2015 American Liszt Society Festival comes to North Texas with fifteen events celebrating the life and legacy of the great composer and historical figure, September 16-18. Marking the group's 51st annual gathering, this year's festival entitled "Liszt and Damnation" examines the dark, often sinister aspect of the composers later works. • Internationally acknowledged as one of the premier ensembles of its kind, the North Texas Wind Symphony, conducted by Eugene Migliaro Corporon, performs at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 24 (Thursday) in Winspear Hall. On the program is Michael Daugherty's On the Air, which the composer describes as "a fantasy on Arturo Toscanini…that captures Toscanini's tempestuous temperament, his musical intensity and the frenzied tempos of his legendary performances." Tickets are $10 for adults; $8 for seniors, students, children, UNT faculty/staff/retirees and groups of 10 or more. Free to UNT students, who must pick up their ticket with their student ID at the Murchison Performing Arts Center box office. Tickets are available online or by phone at 940-369-7802. ICMC is the preeminent annual gathering for computer music practitioners from around the world, focused on the synthesis of science, technology, and the art of music. The theme of the conference, "Looking Back, Looking Forward" invites participants to reflect on the innovations, developments and artistic challenges over the past century, and to articulate a vision for the future. Performances by UNT faculty, students and guest artists from around the world will take place at various venues on and off campus. UNT's Nova Ensemble, the new music ensemble directed by Elizbeth McNutt, will be among the featured performers. Please note that registration is nearly full.
