DENTON (UNT), Texas – UNT's Print Research Institute of North Texas welcomes artist Susan Goethel Campbell for a residency Sept. 11 (Friday) through Sept. 18 (Friday). Goethel Campbell will produce a limited edition of prints that will be available through P.R.I.N.T's second annual Printmaker Subscription program, and, afterward, at market value. The deadline for the subscription program is Sept. 17 (Thursday). Goethel Campbell will also work with graduates students and give a public lecture.

There will be an open house to meet the artist from 4-6 p.m. Sept. 17 (Thursday) at P.R.I.N.T Press, 1120 West Oak St., Denton.

Goethel Campbell is a multi-disciplinary artist who has an installation and video on display through Oct. 17 in UNT's Permanence/Impermanence exhibition. Her work also includes photographs, drawings and projects that engage communities to look at local and global environments. She also has a background in printmaking, with a master's degree from Cranbrook Academy of Art. The prints she will work on at UNT, however, may be mistaken for photographs.

"The prints that I do most are generated from wood, which I choose for their inherent beauty and grain pattern," Goethel Campbell said. "I then create a field of tonality in black and white, then impose on top of that through hand-punching a still from one of my videos based on patterns of urbanization."

The result looks like a city at night while looking out an airplane window. The prints look photographic at first glance, Goethel Campbell said.

During her residency at P.R.I.N.T, Goethel Campbell will work for 10 days to make about 30 prints. Printmaker Subscription members will receive a print and others will stay at P.R.I.N.T, which has an extensive collection of fine art prints.

She will have the opportunity to work with some graduate students, which Goethel Campbell said she looks forward to, as she does some guest teaching.

"We will be really busy because I don't usually create editions this large," she said. "It will be a great challenge and it will be nice to work with the students."
