University of North Texas Libraries will help showcase local creativity and inventiveness on Oct. 8 at the second annual Denton Mini Maker Faire.

The Denton Mini Maker Faire is a family friendly event that offers a variety of activities ranging from creative, hands-on art projects and demonstrations to innovative technological workshops.

Makers range from crafters and homesteaders to garage tinkerers and open-source space flight software developers. The aim of the Maker Faire is to entertain, inform, connect and grow this community.

This year’s faire will feature a speaker panel from the Denton Community Market, an interactive project from the Perot Museum of Nature and Science, vinyl decal demonstrations, screen printing demonstrations, bicycle repair tutorials, drone building classes and more.

UNT Libraries will showcase its library makerspace, The Factory, which promotes the cooperative and creative use of technology, and a Media Library game development workshop, Pixels and Pieces.

In addition to UNT Libraries, the event is sponsored by SCRAP Denton and Texas Woman’s University College of Management.

The faire is 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 8 at the Denton Civic Center. Children 10 and under are admitted free. General admission tickets are $5 if purchased online or $7 at the door.

The original Maker Faire was held in San Mateo, California and in 2016 celebrated its 11th annual show with some 1,100 makers and 145,000 people in attendance. Similar events have now popped up across the world, including Denton.
