DENTON, Texas (UNT) -- One of the few nationally accredited certification exams recognized by the NCAA for professionals who want to train Division 1 and other types of athletes is headed to the University of North Texas. The Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist Exam Prep Live Clinic from the National Strength and Conditioning Association will prepare budding strength and conditioning coaches for the exam required for their future careers. The exam meets a new requirement by the NCAA to certify strength and conditioning coaches.

The clinic takes place from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Oct. 2 and 3 (Friday and Saturday) in Room 110 of UNT's Ken Bahnsen Gymnasium, located at 1908 W. Highland St. in Denton. The cost ranges from $160 to $345, with discounts for early registration by Sept. 11 and Sept. 25 and members of the National Strength and Conditioning Association. On-site registration may be available. UNT students receive an additional $50 discount. Register online.

Redesigned two years ago, the clinic provides a more focused experience by providing a review of the most challenging content areas of the exam, best methods of preparation and sample questions that mimic the actual test. Certified strength and conditioning coaches train athletes for the primary goal of improving athletic performance. They conduct sport-specific testing, design safe and effective strength training and conditioning programs and provide athletes with guidance on nutrition and injury prevention.

The clinic will have a hands-on session on the second day of the exam prep. Participants are asked to dress comfortably and only participate within their physical limitations.

This is the first time the UNT Department of Kinesiology, Health Promotion and Recreation has hosted the live clinic as part of the NSCA's Education Recognition Program.
