DENTON (UNT), Texas -- Innovative New York-based artist Sarah Sze will discuss her work Nov. 2 (Wednesday) as part of the annual Patsy R. and Raymond D. Nasher Lecture Series in Contemporary Sculpture and Criticism.

Sze will first participate in a question and answer session with students at the University of North Texas’ College of Visual Arts and Design at 1 p.m. in the Lightwell Gallery of the Art Building, 1201 W. Mulberry St., Denton. She will then give a public lecture at 7 p.m. at the Nasher Sculpture Center, 2001 Flora St., in Dallas.

Sze is widely recognized for challenging the boundaries of painting, installation and architecture, Sze’s sculptural practice ranges from slight gestures discovered in hidden spaces to expansive installations that scale walls and colonize architectures. Sze, who was a 2003 MacArthur Fellow, serves as a professor of art at Columbia University in New York City.

The lecture is presented by UNT’s College of Visual Arts and Design and sponsored by the Patsy R. and Raymond D. Nasher Series in Contemporary Sculpture and Criticism, endowed at UNT by Nancy A. Nasher, David H. Haemisegger and grandchildren.

The purpose of the series, now in its 17th year, is to bring outstanding artists and critics to students, faculty and the general public.

Eric Ligon, associate dean at CVAD, said the series gives students an opportunity to ask artists about how they built their careers, their creative process and the challenges they face.

“Students find it inspiring to meet world-renowned artists like Sarah Sze,” Ligon said. “Having an informal conversation with our students gives them a unique opportunity to learn about her extraordinary art and creative journey.”
