Fri, 12/04/2015 - 12:11pm

The 2015 Geminid meteor shower, one of the most active meteor showers of the year, will begin Dec. 5 (Saturday) and will peak on Dec. 14 (Monday).

Meteors tend to radiate from the constellation Gemini throughout the event but can be seen across all directions of the night sky. At its peak, viewers can see up to 120 meteors per hour, and those meteors travel at about 22 miles per second. Meteors in the Geminid shower are believed to be debris from the asteroid 3200 Phaethon, which NASA discovered in 1983.
