The University of North Texas recently received reaffirmation of accreditation from the Southern Association of College and Schools Commission on Colleges. Accreditation offers assurance that universities meet rigorous standards set by their accrediting bodies and required by the federal government.

DENTON, Texas (UNT) – A University of North Texas conservation program has gotten a major financial boost. The Cape Horn Biosphere Reserve near Puerto Williams, Chile is part of the Sub-Antarctic Biocultural Conservation Program, a consortium led by UNT in the US, and other Chilean universities and institutions. The Chilean government awarded the program $15 million dollars for the construction of a new Sub-Antarctic Cape Horn Center.

Sue Dinaro always loved being an elementary school teacher, and after four years, she was on her way to becoming a master teacher. But when she moved from New Mexico to Texas after her husband’s job was relocated, she knew she’d have to look for something else. Little did she know that accepting the position five years ago at UNT would put her one step closer to going back to the classroom.

In a report released this year, the World Health Organization revealed that more than 90 percent of the world’s population lives in areas with high levels of air pollution, and that every year, close to three million deaths are linked to outdoor air pollution. Many of those deaths are due to cardiovascular disease or stroke, and now a University of North Texas assistant professor of Biological SciencesAmie Lund, is researching that connection.
