Just in time for the much anticipated release of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, the University of North Texas College of Music Wind Ensemble is paying tribute to John Williams, composer of the franchise’s soundtracks. The event, which also will feature music from E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, Indiana Jones, Jaws, Superman and other well-known Williams compositions, will be held at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 1 (Thursday) in Margot and Bill Winspear Performance Hall in the Murchison Performing Arts Center, 2100 Interstate 35E, Denton.
Sanderia Faye, University of North Texas Ph.D. student in English, has won the nation’s top honor for a debut novel by an African American writer – the Zora Neale Hurston/Richard Wright Foundation 2016 Legacy Award.

Green Brigade Marching Band Alumni Reunion: The University of North Texas will host a weekend of events for former and current members of the Green Brigade Marching Band. Events include a Friday evening reception, a performance with the current Green Brigade and admission to the UNT vs. Southern Mississippi football game.
The annual College of Visual Arts and Design Faculty and Staff Exhibition will give teachers at the University of North Texas an opportunity to experiment – from unique jewelry to different media. The exhibition will take place Nov. 14 (Monday) – Jan. 12 (Thursday) at UNT on the Square and Nov. 15 (Tuesday) – Dec. 3 (Saturday) at UNT Art Gallery. Opening reception is from 5 to 8 p.m. Nov. 17 (Thursday) at both venues.
More than 150 years ago, a Lutheran pastor hauled an organ from Switzerland to Texas by sea, and, for years, early German pioneers of Texas played the instrument. Last November, the Raisin Organ, as it is called, found a home at the University of North Texas College of Music, and at 3:30 p.m. on Nov. 12, the university will host an inauguration for the historic instrument. A free concert will follow at 4 p.m.
The fashion design program at the University of North Texas is considered the best in the state and one of the best in the world, according to two recent surveys.
The University of North Texas is one of only a handful of area universities to screen Leonardo DiCaprio’s latest environmental documentary Before the Flood. The Radio, Television and Film Department is presenting the film, which outlines dramatic changes happening around the world due to climate change, at 7 p.m. Oct. 29.
