“Life of a salesman: Selling success, when the American dream is downsized” received the first place award in the first Best American Newspaper Narrative Writing Contest sponsored by the Mayborn Literary Nonfiction Conference. The Best American Newspaper Narrative Writing Contest is the newest writing contest offered by the Mayborn Literary Nonfiction Conference.
Leslie Jimenez, who expects to earn a master’s degree in higher education from UNT's College of Education in August, has been chosen to be part of the inaugural class of the GEAR UP Alumni Leadership Academy. She was one of 30 people from across the country selected for the 12-month leadership academy.
Eleven UNT students will attend this year’s Mayborn Literary Nonfiction Conference after receiving awards that cover registration and meals and lodging during the conference. The Mayborn Literary Nonfiction Conference is held every summer by UNT's Frank W. Mayborn Graduate Institute of Journalism.
Jon Savage, a recent UNT graduate, is one of only 20 students in the nation to receive the 2013 Jack Kent Cooke Graduate Arts Award for $150,000 to attend graduate school. Savage was a member of both the McNair Scholars Program and the Honors College while he was at UNT.
